~J-@Ð!~ shares his work with an 8-bit microcontroller

James-Adam Renquinha Henri, known as ~J-@Ð!~ online, is a musician from Quebec whose interests include composing music in the NES sound format.

He recently shared a youtube clip demonstrating his project with the PIC16F628A, a flash based 8-bit microcontroller.

What’s going on in there?

“3 timers were used in order to make music and sound : a timer to frame the sound, another timer to frame the music and the last one to control square wave frequency…

pure C programming, and the sound routine runned all on interrupts.”

If that’s over your head, don’t worry… it’s over mine too. But it sounds like he put a lot of thought into this, and the final result is pretty nifty.
